Expungements and Pardons

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Expungements Attorney

A criminal charge on your record could impact your ability to get a job, a promotion, certain professional licenses, student loans, or even insurance. However, there is hope. In the state of Pennsylvania, criminal charges may be expunged from a person's record under certain circumstances.

In addition, if you have been convicted of a crime, you may apply for a pardon which, if granted, will restore certain rights and privileges lost after your conviction. Additionally, once you receive a pardon, you can initiate the process to have your record expunged.

At the criminal defense law office of attorney Randolph L. Goldman, we represent people interested in expungement. We can evaluate your situation, the circumstances surrounding your arrest, and prepare all necessary paperwork. To schedule an appointment to discuss your case, contact expungement lawyer Randolph L. Goldman today.

Expunging Criminal Records

In the state of Pennsylvania, a criminal charge may be expunged under the following circumstances:

  • The charges were dropped or dismissed
  • The accused was found "not guilty" at trial
  • The arrest was for a crime committed as a juvenile
  • Application of a Section 17 disposition
  • Successful completion an ARD program
  • For people 70 years or older who have not been arrested in the last 10 years
  • The offender is deceased
  • Summary offenses (after 5 years)
  • Underage drinking

Applying for a Pardon

Our office can also initiate the pardon process by requesting a pardon application on your behalf. Once it is completed and submitted, the pardon board will investigate your case, the nature of your crime, and conduct an interview. Some of the factors considered by the board include:

  • Whether you have made positive changes in your life
  • How long ago your offense was committed
  • How your crime effected your victim(s)
  • Why you are asking for a pardon
  • Whether you have complied with all court requirements

Why Expungement is Important

Most employers, government agencies, insurance companies and lending institutions conduct background checks on potential employees or customers. When a background check is run, criminal charges that appear on your record could impact your ability to get a job, a promotion, employment with government agencies, insurance, or housing.
